Philadelphia museum names Dirk Breiding to post

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Museum of Art has named Dirk H. Breiding as the J.J. Medveckis associate curator of arms and armor. Currently an assistant curator in the arms and armor department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, where he has worked since 2001.

Breiding received a bachelor of arts degree in 1998 and a master of arts degree in 1999 in Art History from University College, London, then worked respectively as a research assistant and curator in the departments of Oriental antiquities and medieval and later antiquities at the British Museum, and as a specialist in arms and armor at Christie’s London.

Breiding has written widely on the subject of arms and armor, focusing on topics ranging from medieval arms and armor and tomb sculpture to horse armor in medieval and renaissance Europe. He is currently completing a catalog of the Metropolitan Museum’s collection of crossbows and is at work on a number of other publications.
