 Tiffany Bamboo floor lamp, $241,900, Cottone Auctions

A Tiffany Studios bronze floor lamp having a Bamboo design leaded glass sold for $241,900 and a vintage Tiffany & Co. 5.25-carat diamond ring realized $182,900 at Cottone Auctions’ Spring Fine Art & Antiques Auction held March 23-24 in Geneseo, N.Y. Also, a watercolor, India ink and pastel painting on paper by Joan Miro (Spanish, 1893-1983), brought $64,000; and an oil on canvas painting by William Aiken Walker (South Carolina., 1838-1921), titled Cotton Picker (1886), made $22,420.

Bemelmans painting, $13,750, Bruneau & Co.

A painting by Ludwig Bemelmans (French/New York, 1898-1962), titled Palma De Mallorca Street Scene (1956), sold for $13,750 at an Antiques & Fine Art Estate Auction held April 14 by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers in Cranston, Rhode Island. Also, a bronze and marble 19th century French neoclassical figural group, 36 inches tall, signed “Dumege” and stamped “Made in France,” realized $5,625; and a late 19th century jade rock crystal bronze shelf clock, made in China and Switzerland, hit $2,812. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Lionel trains store display, $12,000, Milestone Auctions

A 1932 Lionel #177 Scenic Railway store display, 78 inches by 57 inches, all original, sold for $12,000 at a Spring Spectacular held April 14 by Milestone Auctions in Willoughby, Ohio. Also, a German clockwork Uncle Sam Easter rabbit, composition with glass eyes and teeth, 25 inches tall, fetched $4,920; a Mohair-bearded German Santa Claus candy container in a white robe, 22 inches tall, brought $4,680; and an American Flyer Presidential train chugged off for $2,160.

Charles Fazzino oil painting, $5,715, The Benefit Shop Foundation

A rare and early folk art oil painting by Charles Fazzino (New York), dated 1983 and 13 inches by 11 inches, sold for $5,715 at an auction held April 18 by the Benefit Shop Foundation in Mount Kisco, New York. It was a new auction record for the artist. Also, a limited edition stone litho portfolio by Kathe Kollwitz (German, 1867-1945), with 23 lithographs of the artist’s work, made $2,857; and Joe Taylor’s monumental recreation of Buckwheat Zydeco’s Hey Joe album cover hit $2,413.

Winchester model 1866 rifle, $598,000, James D. Julia Inc.

A Winchester model 1866 lever-action rifle by the legendary engraver Conrad Ulrich sold for $598,000 at an Extraordinary Firearms Auction held March 21-23 by James D. Julia Inc., in Fairfield, Maine. Also, a Colt model 1875 Gatling gun on an original carriage rang realized  $299,000; a Colt model 1883 U.S. Navy Gatling gun on a tripod knocked down for $230,000; and a Marlin 1893 takedown rifle with gold and platinum inlays presented to Annie Oakley went for $258,750.

Chinese calligraphy, $269,000, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers

A Xing Tong, Wang Xizhis Shi Qi Tie Chinese calligraphy in cursive script sold for $269,000 at an Asian Works of Art Auction held March 26 by Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago. Also, an ink on paper artwork attributed to Shen Quan, titled Cranes and Deer, rose to $87,500; a carved white jade ruyi scepter gaveled for $197,000; a gilt and robin’s egg glazed porcelain figure of a bodhisattva brought $68,750; and a Chinese cloisonne enamel three-fold floor screen hit $42,500.

Dan Ostermiller bronze sculpture, $3,000, John Moran Auctioneers

A bronze sculpture of a grizzly on its back, titled A Roll in the Junipers, sold for $3,000 at an auction held March 12 by John Moran Auctioneers in Monrovia, Calif. Also, a satinwood-inlaid David Linley for Dunhill “Villa” jewelry box finished at $2,160; and a 20th century Russian Impressionist School painting of a woman in a barn with cows topped out at $1,750.

Norman Lewis oil painting, $725,000, Swann Auction

An untitled oil on canvas by Norman Lewis painted in 1956 sold for $725,000 at an African-American Fine Art Auction held April 5 by Swann Auction Galleries in New York City. Also, an untitled (Village Street Scene) oil on canvas painted in 1948 by Beauford Delaney gaveled for $557,000; a charcoal with crayon and wash on board done in 1956 by Charles White, titled O Freedom, brought $509,000; and a tempera on board done in 1956 by Jacob Lawrence fetched $413,000.

Beaded hide war shirt, $55,200, Cowan’s Auctions

An A’aninin (Gros Ventre) beaded hide war shirt sold for $55,200 at an American Indian & Western Art Auction held April 6 by Cowan’s Auctions in Cincinnati. Also, a Sioux child’s beaded hide shirt realized $28,800; an identified Ponca beaded hide war shirt with leggings brought $45,600; a pair of slate fantail birdstones fetched $49,200 and $45,000; a late classic Navajo child’s serape made $24,000; and a Sioux painted ghost dance shirt commanded $26,400.

‘Victory Map’ of Cuba, $138,798, RR Auction

President John F. Kennedy’s personal “victory map” of Cuba, used during the Cuban missile crisis and marked “Secret” in the lower left and upper right corners, sold for $138,798 in a Fine Autographs & Artifacts Auction held online March 16-April 11 by RR Auction in Boston. Also, a George Washington Revolutionary War letter from West Point in 1778 went for 36,546; a Thomas Jefferson signed letter fetched $28,843; and a Ben Franklin twice-signed letter realized $14,822.

Koekkoek painting, $132,000, Eldred’s

A painting by Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (Dutch/German, 1803-1862), titled Winter landscape with wood gatherers, 24¼ inches by 19¾ inches, sold for $132,000 at an Americana & Paintings Auction held April 6-7 by Eldred’s in East Dennis, Massachusetts. Also, an oil on canvas by John Ross Key (American, 1837-1920), titled Mt. Washington Meadows, brought $48,000; and an early 20th century Greek Key table lamp by Tiffany Studios, 33 inches tall, earned $54,000.

Stevie Ray Vaughan guitar, $250,000, Heritage Auctions

Stevie Ray Vaughan’s owned and stage-played “Jimbo” electric guitar sold for $250,000 at an Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Auction held April 15 by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. Also, a Style B half-sheet movie poster from the classic film Casablanca (Warner Bros., 1942) went for $56,250; an Elvis Presley WSM Grand Ole Opry City Auditorium concert poster from 1955 made $42,500; and a Jimi Hendrix owned and played Hagstrom H8 bass guitar rose to $35,000.

Colt percussion revolver, $1.84 million, Rock Island Auction Co.

The only known original cased Colt civilian Walker percussion revolver, known as the “Danish Sea Captain Walker”, sold for $1.84 million at a Premiere Firearms Sale held April 13-15 by Rock Island Auction Co. in Rock Island, Illinois. Also, a Civil War salvage Navy model percussion revolver realized $48,875; a factory engraved Winchester model 1876 deluxe rifle brought $747,500; and actor Robert Taylor’s Winchester model 42 Pigeon grade skeet shotgun made $86,250.

Robert Indiana work, $915,000, Phillips

An artwork by Robert Indiana titled Numbers One through Zero (1978-2003) sold for $915,000 at Phillips’ 10th Anniversary Editions Auction, a sale of popular prints and multiples held April 24 in New York City. Also, Roy Lichtenstein’s Reverie, from 11 Pop Artists, Volume II (1965), knocked down for $181,250; and a print of Andy Warhol’s Marilyn (1967) hit a record $137,500.

‘Harts Coins of the West’ gold coins, $41,572, Holabird Western Americana

A 36-piece “Harts Coins of the West” set of gold coins sold for $41,572 at Holabird Western Americana Collections’ Gold Rush Sale held March 15-18, online and in Reno, Nevada. Also, a solid gold goose egg made in 1982 and engraved “one pound troy +/- Fine Gold / 999.9 / 1 of 87” finished at $24,100; and one of only two known uncut sheets of Belfast Mining Co, (Auraria, Ga.) scrip notes, $50-$100, graded PMG VF 30 (the better of the two sheets) made $7,812.
