NEW YORK – Roland Auctions N.Y. kicks off an ambitious 2016 summer auction schedule on Saturday, June 4, commencing at 10 a.m. Eastern. This sale boasts over 1,100 fresh-to-market lots comprising luxury items from prestigious Manhattan estates as well as locations in East Hampton, N.Y., and Greenwich, Conn.

“When my brother Billy and I conceived of a new auction house in the city, nearly six years ago, we wholly intended it to be an all-seasons enterprise,” said co-owner Robert Roland.
“The diversity of merchandise reflects the breadth and scope of estate collections unique to the metropolitan New York City area. Summertime is typically considered a slow period by most regional auction houses. As a result, many either scale back or halt their operations entirely until the fall. Our strategy from the outset has been to take advantage of this lull and present to the marketplace some of the best merchandise to be found both nationally and internationally,” said Roland.
The first few dozen lots are drawn exclusively from the estate of renowned collector Dr. Alan York. These lots consist of U.S. presidential campaign ephemera spanning George Washington to Abraham Lincoln, Numismatics including U.S. federal, obsolete and satirical banknotes, and a smattering of historical medals.
With objets d’art spanning Belle Epoque through all phases of 20th century modernism, this auction provides an art historical and design survey that still manages to include opportunities for collectors at every bidding level, said Roland.
Traditional antiques hit the mark in a multitude of styles and materials. Included within this category is a huge signed Louis Majorelle marquetry inlaid triptych floor mirror (below).
Already generating great interest are works of fine art spanning paintings, prints, photographs, and sculptures only now available to the marketplace after decades of private ownership.
