STAMFORD, Conn. — Mark Blechman, the auctioneer behind America’s Best Auctioneer (ABA), is bringing a collection of 300 recent finds to the auction block on Feb. 7. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding. The sale will begin at 1 p.m. EST.
Known for receiving a wide range of art, jewelry, collectibles and home decoratives in his Stamford gallery from all over the United States, Blechman’s reach has only increased by his inclusion in a new television series, Money Barn, airing on Animal Planet.
The cameras follow four auctioneers as they are taken to barns all over Pennsylvania and given 20 minutes to inspect the contents and assign value to the discoveries. Then the auctioneers must convince the barn owners that they will raise the most money for their property at auction. Each episode ends with one of the auctioneers conducting the auction and the proceeds tallied.
Two episodes premiered in December and Animal Planet has just placed Money Barn on its February schedule. The show’s filmed episodes take place in Pennsylvania, but other areas of the country may be considered in the future.
The sudden fame from this foray into television has translated into a flood of consignments that his weekly auctions all over the Northeast cannot feature. Each month a selection of recent acquisitions will be made and sold at a live session auction with Internet bidding via LiveAuctioneers.com open to all.
The idea is to offer a little bit of something for everyone. Lots range from nonprovenanced porcelains to certified baseball memorabilia to preowned Rolex watches. Additional items will be added until the day of the auction.
