MONROVIA, Calif. – Featuring nearly 300 lots of fine jewelry both antique and modern, John Moran Auctioneers’ Dec. 8 Fine Jewelry Auction Catalog offers stunning selections at all price points. Holiday-ready highlights abound, including excellent examples of Art Deco design, striking diamonds and iconic pieces by designers such as Van Cleef and Arpels, Henry Dunay and Patek Philippe.
One of the expected top lots for the evening is a rare 2.78-carat round brilliant-cut natural colored diamond (above), GIA graded as fancy light gray-blue and VVS2 clarity. The unmounted stone is expected to bring between $50,000 and $70,000 at Moran’s December auction.
While diamonds abound in Moran’s December catalog, a number of standout pieces are highly anticipated. One such lot is a striking diamond and platinum navette ring featuring a geometric arrangement of old European and old-mine cut diamonds; the ring is offered with a conservative $4000 to $6000 pre-sale estimate. Offered for $3000 to $5000, an elegant diamond, platinum and GIA-certified natural saltwater button pearl ring is sure to exceed expectations. Expected to create a buzz among collectors, a pretty pair of foliate-motif Russian guilloche enamel, diamond and ruby ear pendants are offered for a respectable $1,200 to $1,800 (below).
Collectors of Art Deco design will be pleased to find a number of choice examples within the fully illustrated catalog. Dating to approximately 1925, a stunning platinum, diamond and sapphire bracelet (below) epitomizing the clean geometric lines of Art Deco design is offered with a $12,000 to $15,000 estimate.
An eye-catching pair of coral, diamond and gold earrings (below) by award-winning 20th century designer Henry Dunay are offered for $7,000 to $9,000. Featuring Dunay’s distinctive hand-etched “Sabi” finish on the knot-like flambeau-form gold tops, the earrings may very well outstrip their conservative estimate.
Moran’s December fine jewelry catalog also offers a number of excellent men’s watches and accessories with selections to suit every budget. A handsome Panerai Logo Pre-Vendome wristwatch (below), one of a limited series run of 677, features a classic, cleanly designed cushion-shaped stainless steel face with gold-tone hour markers on a black ground, and is expected to bring $20,000 to $30,000.
A Rolex for Tiffany & Co. GMT Master wristwatch with a half red, half blue 24-hour rotating bezel and a stately black-ground face is for sale with an $8,000 to $12,000 estimate.
