CHARLESTON, S.C. – On Sunday, Dec. 6, Charleston Estate Auctions’ Holiday Auction will offer a high-quality selection of estate and fine jewelry, exceptional sterling silver, over 100 lots of Lionel trains and accessories, as well as, other unique items from grand Charleston homes and surrounding estates.
The auction features jewelry items from the Estate of Mary Alicia Rhett (India Wilkes – Gone with the Wind), and Charleston Estate Auctions will be donating their services to the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina, so 100 percent of lot hammer prices will be going to charity.
A circa 1929 Art Deco sterling silver tea service (above) in the elegant Debutante pattern from the Boston firm of Richard Dimes is split between two lots. Lot 101 consists of the coffeepot, teapot, sugar, creamer and waste – total weight 5 pounds 6 ounces. Lot 124 is the matching Art Deco sterling silver tray, which measures 24 inches by 17 3/4 inches by 1 inch and weighs 6 pounds 13 ounces. Together they are estimated at $5,500-$7,500.
A gorgeous piece of fine estate jewelry is lot 112. This 14K gold lapis and diamond brooch (below) is measures approximately 1.78 inches by 1.91 inches and features a large lapis in the center surrounded by diamonds and accent cabochon stones. The piece weighs 31.40 grams and is estimated in value at $7,000.
Lot 119 is a rare first edition of Christmas Poems and Pictures by James G. Gregory, New York 1864 (below). The deeply embossed green leather hardcover is elaborately decorated and in very good condition. Estimated value is $1,000-$1,200.
Lot 122 is a Lionel Chesapeake & Ohio GP-7 No. 2365 (below), which was available in 1962 and 1963. This engine is estimated at $400-$500. CEA’s Holiday Auction has a lifetime collection of Lionel trains and accessories, dispersed over 100 lots.
Lot 68 is a unique piece of Victorian collector jewelry. This whimsical 14K and 18K gold (tested) watch fob brooch measures approximately 2 inches by nearly 1 inch wide and features a squirrel in the center of a curved half covered leaf. The body of the squirrel is a composed of one half drilled, baroque-shape pearl with gold arms, legs, tail and head. All of the gold features of the piece have exquisite detail. The piece was originally a Victorian watch fob that was converted into a brooch. Estimated value is $2,000-$2,200.
One of the top jewelry highlights of the auction is this stunning platinum, sapphire and diamond brooch (below). The brooch measures 1.6 inces across and is set with approx. 3.00 carats total weight of sapphires and 1.00 ct/tw of diamonds. The sapphires are step cuts that graduate seamlessly in the channel settings. The piece is in excellent condition and estimated in value from $8,750-$9,500.
