Baccarat, exceptional fine jewelry add sparkle to Capo’s Aug. 27 auction

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. – A selection of Baccarat decorative pieces and fine jewelry including pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels will take the spotlight at Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques on Saturday, August 27 during the company’s final auction of the summer season. The auction, which has a start time of 11 a.m. Eastern, also features a wide selection of fine art, along with contemporary and antique furniture, silver and decorative items. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com.

An unusual collection of Baccarat items includes a Baccarat Crystal Luster Sapphire chandelier with 18 lights on two tiers. Its height is 40 inches, and it has a 45-inch diameter. The auction estimate is $30,000-$40,000.

Other top pieces include a Baccarat crystal chandelier with eight scrolled arms hung with prisms, estimate $10,000-$15,000; and a Baccarat extra-large (16in) Eye vase, shown below, est. $6,000-$8,000.

A Baccarat crystal side chair, designed by Philippe Starck, has a stainless steel frame and crystal detail on top. Shown below, its estimate is $2,500-$3,000.

With fine jewelry doing so well this summer at Capo’s auctions, the company will once again offer some stunning pieces. They include a Van Cleef 18K white gold and diamond pin. The stylized leaf-form pin is pave-set with round and baguette diamonds, is signed Van Cleef & Arpels and numbered 11312. Estimate: $4,000-$6,000).

A platinum, emerald and diamond ring weighing 1.58 carats, within a border of round diamonds totaling .73 carats, is accompanied by AGTA Report #95002411, dated May 22, 2008, stating the emerald is a natural beryl from Colombia. The size 6 ring is estimated at $5,000-$7,000.

A 17-inch-long platinum, pearl and diamond necklace designed by Erica Courtney features 12 freshwater pearls accented with round diamonds. It is expected to sell in the $4,000-$6,000 range. Another beautiful entry is the 18K rose gold ring in the form of a butterfly set with round diamonds. Estimate: $1,200-$1,600.

The midcentury modern and contemporary furniture selection includes an Eames molded fiberglass chair designed in 1946 and estimated at $400-$600. A pair of gray leather and chrome chairs designed by Christophe Pillet for Holly Hunt is entered with an $800-$1,200 estimate; while a pair of Chinese-style black lacquered chairs, each with a scrolled crest rail, vertical splat with shagreen inset front and back panel and panel seat, on straight legs joined by a modified box stretcher, could reach $2,000-$3,000. A simulated lapis lazuli end table of geometric design is estimated at $150- $250.

Decorative items include a Lalique Rinceaux mirror of black glass with entwined curlicue decoration on a framed rectangular mirror plate. Measuring 60 inches by 26 inches, it carries a pre-sale estimate of $8,000-$12,000. A 19th-century Sevres porcelain compote of cobalt porcelain with gilt highlights is marked Dore a Sevres and dated 77. Shown below, it is estimated at $1,500-$2,000.
