BOULDER, Colo. – Fascinating treasures of the ancient world will cross the auction block Tuesday, Feb. 16, as Artemis Gallery sells classical antiquities, Asian, ethnographic and tribal art from several estates. The 331-lot sale will feature items from the private collections of the late Dr. Peter Arnovick and John Piscopo.

Arnovick was an art historian and professor at Menlo College and owner and CEO of Araine Fine Arts, San Francisco. He was a well-respected collector of African, tribal and pre-Columbian art.

John Picscopo was a scholar and author who amassed one of the largest U.S. collectors of ancient weapons, which spanned all cultures and ages.

Many cultures are represented in the 331-lot auction, from a Chinese Tang Dynasty sancai glazed camel (below) to a Viking iron battle-ax and a Mayan redware monkey bowl.
