HOUSTON – A Tibetan thangka of Amitabha Buddha, late 18th/early 19th century sold for more than $191,000 at Simpson Galleries Fine Art and Antiques auction held Nov. 7 and 8.

Interest in the piece was so great that “we had to bring in additional manpower to handle the phones,” said Ray Simpson Jr., co-owner and manager of the gallery.

Featuring a private collection of fine Georgian furniture and timepieces, the two-day sale prompted more than 6,000 online bidders to register online through LiveAuctioneers.com.

One of the finest timepieces offered was a Queen Anne ebonized wood and oyster veneered bracket clock (below), by Langley Bradley, London, early 18th century, fetching nearly $7,500.
