BUFORD, Ga. – Slotin Folk Art’s auction April 30 and May 1 highlighted some incredible masterpieces and remarkable prices. Topping the results was Evonne, a Possum Trot doll by Calvin and Ruby Black, which sold for $72,000. The 51-inch-tall museum quality folk art figure was estimated at $25,000-$40,000.

An important drawing by freed slave Bill Traylor, titled Baby Chick (below), with Judy Saslow Gallery provenance, sold within estimate for $43,200.
The Willard Hotel (below), a stunning work by William Hawkins that had been exhibited at the Museum of American Folk Art in New York, sold for $42,000, also within estimate. A second work by Hawkins, titled Rhino, realized $22,800.
A rare double-sided work (below) by Art Brut master Charles A.A. Dellschau, (est. $10,000-$15,000), realized $19,200.
Bust of a Woman With Blue Eyes by S.L. Jones (est. $8,000-$12,000) sold for $14,400.
