NEW YORK – Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques in Long Island City celebrated their five-year anniversary with auctions on Sept. 26 and Oct. 24 that featured a selection of contemporary art, highly desirable jewelry pieces, Chinese decorative items and unusual furniture.

Substantial crowds turned up for the auctions after a generous amount of presale interest and online bidding in all categories. Bidding in the room and on the phones escalated early in the fine and contemporary art arena and continued throughout the day at both auctions.
LiveAuctioneers.com provided absentee and Internet live bidding.

A Robert Indiana (American, b. 1928) painting, titled The American Love (above), enamel on aluminum, 1975, sold for $3,000. From an edition of approximately 100, the framed work measured 14 1/8 x 13 3/8 inches.

Much excitement surrounded the sale of the Willi’s Wine Bar lithograph poster (below) by A.M. Cassandre, 1984, first edition. It was one of a series of paintings commissioned by Willie’s Wine Bar, Paris, wherein artists were asked to create pieces that represented the pleasures of wine and wine culture. Sight size was 39 by 27 inches. It sold for $4,200.
