NEW YORK – Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques, based in Long Island City, N.Y., is preparing for its fifth anniversary in October with the first auction of the fall season, to be held Saturday, September 26th at 11 a.m. Eastern Time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Mid-Century modern furniture continues to top Capo’s sales month after month and will be the focal point at the company’s September and October auctions celebrating the anniversary. Additional auction categories include antique and other furniture, contemporary art, bronze, decorative items and jewelry.

The impressive mid-century selection to be auctioned on Sept. 26 includes a beautiful sofa of asymmetrical design (shown above) with one arm, tapered legs, and blue and green stripe upholstery. Its measurements are: Height 27 inches, width 11 feet 2 inches, depth 32 inches. Estimate: $1,500-$2,000.

A pair of Dunbar lounge chairs with button-tufted, upholstered backs retains a metal label that reads ‘Contract Division’ and ‘Dunbar Berne Indiana.’ Its auction estimate is $2,000-$3,000.

Another mid-century design, a two-tier birch side table with glass inset, could prove to be a very good buy for some sharp-eyed modern furniture enthusiast, as it is modestly estimated at $250-$350.

The sale also features a chic Cartier circle pin of platinum with an emerald and sapphire-accented bird of paradise on a ring of graduated round diamonds. It is signed ‘Cartier’ and numbered ‘8104.’ Estimate: $8,000-$12,000.

A Robert Rauschenberg (American, 1925-2008) artwork — screen print, graphite and fabric on paper with plastic thread — is titled Calf Startena and is from the artist’s Chow Bag series). It is signed, dated 1977 and numbered 85/100 (LC), with the publisher’s and printer’s blindstamps: Untitled Press Inc., Captive Island, Florida and Styria Studio, New York. Sight size 48 1/8 x 36 3/8 inches. Mounted and framed, it is offered with a $2,500-$3,500 estimate.

Cast in the 20th-century, a bronze after Fernando Botero (Columbian, b. 1932-) is titled El Gato (The Cat). Signed on base E/A Botero 4/6 with an Italian foundry stamp, it stands 8 inches tall, 24 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep. Estimate: $2,500-3,000).

A French Art Deco sculpture depicting a woman feeding grapes to a goat while kneeling on marble rock has a silvered patina with detailing on white metal. It is signed C. Limousin on the sculpture and base. Measurements are: height 17.5 inches; with base 19.5 inches. Estimate: $1,200-$1,400.
